In times, when there
is an occasion to change Coolants, one can be confused easily over the choice.
There are several types of them in the market. They are found in every auto
store, and has different specifications. Thus, determining the right anti
freezing cooling agent can be hectic. Although, generally, only mechanics
changes coolants, it can be a very simple DIY, that can save good money. The
only need is to know how to determine the best type for the vehicle. They need
to be replaced for sure because, if old, they can wear down the metallic parts
of your car. The old liquid should be flushed from the whole system to fill in the
fresh one.
Most manufacturers
suggest a particular type or brand of coolant. However, it is not restricted to
single type and that particular brand might not be available anywhere or
anytime. Technically, cars can run on any type of anti-freezing agents or
coolant, but works the best when it matches the best with the built-in nature
of the car. The type of metal or the alloy used in the engine should be immune
to the chemical or acid used in the coolant. There are three common types of antifreeze
coolants. They have different chemical composition that fit with certain types
of engines. Based on technology, the three different types are: Inorganic Acid
Technology (IAT), Organic Acid technology(OAT) and Hybrid Organic Acid
Technology(HOAT).
The IAT types
are identified with their green color. They contain silicates and phosphate corrosion
inhibitors. This type is used in older cars that are manufactures before 1990s.
They should be flushed once every two years or at every 30,000 miles. The next
type, OAT, is found in different colors. They may range from orange to dark
green. The basic difference is, they contain organic acid in place of silicates
or phosphates. They have a longer lifetime than IAT types. Normally, they
should be replaced in five years or in every 150,000 miles. An advantage of
these types of coolants is they can be used in cars from different
manufacturers by adding special additives. The third type, HOAT, have silicates
as well as organic acids. They help in protection of aluminum and prevent corrosion.
They have a similar lifetime with that of OATs. HOAT coolants are colored yellow or orange.
Coolant is
something very important for every car owner, but most tend to have a little
about them. However, the use of coolant is known to all. It is the “liquid”
that keeps your car engine cool enough to run. The radiator or the engine
produces immense heat that can render possible damage by over-heating the car.
It is used to cool down the metallic parts. Moreover, it is crucial for car to
keep it running during winter. The anti-freeze coolants save the engine from
freezing in cold weather. This particular liquid needs to be changed over a
time of a couple of years, as they get exhausted. This is the reason car owners
should have a little awareness about them. Golden Cruiser EXTREME
is a high
grade anti freeze coolant provides trouble-free protection in all weather
conditions. It has a service life of 5 years with unlimited mileage.
